We appreciate your interest in playing Audiofy audiobook chips on an Apple Macintosh system, including Apple iMac, Mac mini, Mac Pro or Power Mac desktop computers, and MacBook, MacBook Pro, iBook and PowerBook laptop computers. Audiofy audiobook chips will play on Apple Macintosh computers with either PowerPC or Intel processors (through Apple's Rosetta technology).
This page covers . . .
The Apple Macintosh computer you use to play Audiofy audiobook chips must be running an up-to-date version of Apple Mac OS X 10.4 or later. To see which version of Apple Mac OS X is running on your computer, click on the Apple logo in the upper-left corner of the screen, and select the item "About This Mac." To verify your operating system is up-to-date, click on the Apple logo in the upper-left corner of the screen, and select the item "Software Update..."
You will also need an SD memory card slot or adapter for inserting Audiofy audiobook chips into your computer, such as the Audiofy USB Reader (click here) or media card readers typically used with digital cameras. Many "photo printers" designed for use with digital cameras have built-in SD memory card slots.
- Make sure you have plugged your Audiofy USB Reader, or a similar media card reader, into an open, rectangular-shaped USB connector on the side of your computer, or along the side of an attached display, keyboard or USB hub.
- Insert an Audiofy audiobook chip into the SD Card slot. Typically, an icon representing the Audiofy audiobook chip will appear on your computer's desktop after a few seconds, the Audiofy playback window will open to display the table of contents for the audiobook chip, and the audiobook chip will begin to play automatically. If you see the table of contents but do not hear any audio, click once or twice on the name of a passage you would like to listen to, and verify the volume is turned up on your computer, display and speakers.
- If the Audiofy playback window doesn't appear automatically after a few seconds, locate the Audiofy playback application, labeled "AudiofyMac," on your audiobook chip, and click once or twice to begin listening. To locate the Audiofy playback application, find the icon on your computer's desktop that represents the Audiofy audiobook chip, then click on the icon once or twice. In the window that appears, click once or twice on the icon labeled "AudiofyMac."
Audiofy audiobook chips now contain "beta" software to transfer audiobook chip content to Apple iPod media players with displays (excludes Apple iPod shuffle models). To read more about testing this feature, or to learn about updating older Audiofy audiobook chips, click here.
If you own a wireless Apple AirPort Express unit, Audiofy audiobook chips that are plugged into your computer can be played through your home music system using Airfoil, a low-cost utility from the software company Rogue Amoeba. Enjoy Audiofy audiobook chips wherever you go.
