We appreciate your interest in trying our beta software for transferring Audiofy audiobook chip content to Apple iPod media players. This page covers . . .

What You Need

Audiofy's software is designed to support Apple iPod media players with displays. Apple iPod shuffle models are not currently supported.

On computers running Microsoft Windows: Transferring audiobook chip content to your Apple iPod media player requires Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 2000 with the Apple iTunes application installed. You will also need an SD memory card slot or adapter for inserting your audiobook chips, such as the Audiofy USB Reader or media card readers typically used with digital cameras.

On computers running Apple Mac OS X: Transferring audiobook chip content to your Apple iPod media player requires Apple Mac OS X 10.3.9 or above with the Apple iTunes application installed. You will also need an SD memory card adapter for inserting your audiobook chips, such as the Audiofy USB Reader or media card readers typically used with digital cameras. The beta software is designed to run on Apple Macintosh computers with either PowerPC or Intel processors.

What to Remember

Before transferring audiobook content, you must set the preference to "Manually Manage Music" in the Apple iTunes application. To do this, open the Apple iTunes application, connect your Apple iPod media player to your computer, and follow these instructions.

  • For Apple iTunes 7 and above: In the "Devices" section on the left side of the Apple iTunes window, click on the listing for your iPod media player. Then, verify that the "Summary" tab at the top of the window is selected by clicking on it. In the "Options" section of the page, click the box next to "Manually Manage Music" until it is checked. Finally, click the "Apply" button in the lower right corner of the Apple iTunes window.
  • For Apple iTunes 6: Click on the "Edit" menu in the upper left corner, and click on "Preferences..." at the bottom of the menu. Near the top edge of the window that appears, click on the tab labeled "iPod" and then click on the tab labeled "Music" below it. Click in the space to the left of "Manually manage songs and playlists" and then click the "OK" button in the lower right corner of the window.

Audiofy's software is installed by copying it to each audiobook chip you would like to transfer. Use the copy placed on your audiobook chip to transfer audiobook chip content, rather than the installer first downloaded to your computer.

To begin transferring the audiobook chip content, click on the "File" menu in the upper left corner, and click the menu item labeled "ChipZip!" For step-by-step instructions, see below. In most cases, the transfer will take several minutes, depending on the length of the audiobook chip and the speed of your computer.

Although the Apple iTunes application is used to transfer audiobook chip content to your Apple iPod media player, the Audiofy Player software is still used when listening to audiobook chips on your computer.

If your Apple iPod media player is reset in a way that erases the audio files on the device, first use the Apple iTunes application to update and restore the files on your iPod. Then, use Audiofy's software to transfer your audiobook chip content back to your device.

The Apple iPod clickwheel and display allow you to move forward and backward in audiobook passages, the same way you navigate other media on your device. Audiofy's audio navigation feature (clicking the "Info" button to hear an announcement of your current listening location) is not available on handheld media players, including Apple iPod models. To use audio navigation, play audiobook chips on the Audiofy Player, Palm or Pocket PC handheld PDAs, Treo or Windows Mobile smartphones, or computers running Microsoft Windows.
